New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate suffered a concussion during the team's 32-13 victory over the Chicago Bears on Friday night.

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Giants coach Pat Shurmur announced that Tate is in the concussion protocol which means he will need to pass all the necessary tests before he is allowed back out on the field.

It was announced earlier this summer that Taste was suspended four games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He has been able to practice and play during the preseason but after the preseason is over he won't be able to be on the field until week five.

Injuries are never a good thing, but if he has to miss this week, it could actually be a good thing for the Giants. Even though the Giants will be missing him the first four weeks he has been practicing with the first team all training camp.

This will give the team a chance to see what life will be without him and Sterling Shepard if he isn't ready to start the season. During practice this week and maybe the game against the Cincinnati Bengals if Tate isn't able to go It will be  Bennie Fowler, Alonzo Russell, and T.J. Jones who should expect to see more snaps.

When Tate comes back from his suspension he should be a huge part of the Giants offense. Last season he split time between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions and was strong for both teams catching 74 passes for 795 and four touchdowns.
