New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones may not be entering the 2019 NFL season as the starter, however, it seems that has not stopped him from emerging into a leader for this team.

According to Matt Lombardo of NJ.com, wide receiver Golden Tate says Jones has quietly started to lead by example.

“He’s a guy who shows up every day and doesn’t say much,” Tate said. “But, he’s quietly become a leader.”

Tate added that he has high hopes for his teammate in the future.

“The biggest thing that impresses me is his composure in the huddle or the locker room,” Tate said. “How he handles his business. He has an eagerness to learn. We’ve seen the arm-strength. We’ve seen the talent he has. I’ve been impressed by his growth, physically and mentally. When the time is right, he’s going to show it.”

Jones has found himself as the subject of heavy criticism this offseason since being taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It ultimately culminated with some shots fired from the Cleveland Browns star passing duo in Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr.

The rookie has since managed to silence the doubters with a spectacular outing in the preseason. Although his time in the finale against the New England Patriots was limited, he managed to hit his wideouts on all four attempts for 47 yards. As a result, he finished the preseason completing 29-of-34 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns.

Tate has been around his fair share of notable quarterbacks during his decade in the league. His praise for Jones indicates that the Giants' franchise will be in good hands for years to come.
