New York Giants head coach Joe Judge had a special kind of punishment in order for wide receiver Golden Tate during the team's Friday practice.

Tate's wife, Elise, was critical of the team during the Giants' loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday. She chastised New York for failing to get her husband the ball and allowing him to make plays.

Tate himself appeared to utter something about his usage into the camera after scoring a last-second touchdown that nearly resulted in the Giants tying the game.

Apparently, these criticisms were not lost on Judge. He forced Tate to play the role of Washington Football Team star wideout Terry McLaurin as part of the scout team on Friday.

Tate has had plenty of reason to be frustrated this year.

The veteran has just 22 receptions for 226 yards through the team's first seven games, and has mostly taken a backseat in the passing game. Quarterback Daniel Jones has often looked for Darius Slayton and, since he returned, Sterling Shephard.

Additionally, Tate was involved in a postgame skirmish with Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey following New York's Week 4 loss to the Rams.

There are other reasons why Tate faced punishment on Friday. He missed the Giants' Wednesday walkthrough amid rumors the team attempted to trade him ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

It will be curious to see what Tate's role will be moving forward. His contract has a potential out in 2021, though that out carries a dead cap hit of nearly $5 million, per Spotrac.

In any case, it appears tensions are high between Tate and the Giants coaching staff.
