When the New York Giants selected Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick of the NFL Draft back in April, they were lambasted every which way for not going with Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins instead.

But, from all accounts, Jones has looked very impressive throughout the offseason, and Giants safety Jabrill Peppers is liking what he is seeing from the rookie:

“I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people,” Peppers said, according to Steve Serby of The New York Post. “Strong arm, very accurate. Just wait and see on Daniel, I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people.”

Jones is coming off of a senior campaign in which he threw for 2,674 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 60.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 131.7.

Those aren't exactly great numbers, but Peppers has high hopes for the youngster:

“When we drafted him, he was the butt of a lot of jokes, people really didn’t like the pick,” Peppers said. “Even when I was at the [MetLife Stadium] draft party, it was like some boos. I didn’t really know him like that, but I knew of his coach, [David] Cutcliffe. I know the guys he produced and I met Coach Cutcliffe, and he’s a Coach Cutcliffe product. I’m automatically gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. But in practice he showed me some things, some throws he fit in some super-tight windows, and I just had to look at him like, ‘That was a good throw.’ ”

Of course, Jones has some big shoes to fill, as he will be the successor to Eli Manning, who has won two Super Bowls as starting quarterback of the Giants since taking over in 2004.
Manning is expected to start in 2019, but his contract is up at the end of the year, which could clear the way for Jones to take the reins under center in 2020.
