In the wake of Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III's arrest after driving drunk and speeding, which killed a woman and her dog, some NFL players have tried to offer their support to Ruggs. Among them were Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and New York Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

Toney tried to explain Ruggs' actions by explaining that he is a young man. New York's first-round pick tweeted that the public didn't need to go all out on criticizing Ruggs and asked for prayers for the families involved.

Toney's attempt to express sympathy for Ruggs resonated very poorly on Twitter. His words were met with swift and serious backlash because he tried to make Ruggs' incident — driving over 150 miles an hour while his blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit, which led to a crash that killed a 23-year-old woman — seem like an honest mistake, which is a wildly irresponsible notion.

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Giants head coach Joe Judge addressed Toney's tweet with the team, stressing the importance of carefully explaining their thoughts. Although Judge's disciplinarian approach has been more of a persona than a serious culture-setting attitude, it's helpful in instances like these.

Per Raanan:

Joe Judge spoke to his team and Kadarius Toney about his comments on the Henry Ruggs tragic incident. “It’s important how we articulate our words,” Judge said. “And watch what we say at the same time.”

The Giants and the Raiders face each other this Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
