The New York Giants have a lot of work to do with their roster this offseason. But they also have some work to do in their legal department as they face a lawsuit.
Brian Flores sued the Giants, as well as the NFL, Miami Dolphins, and Denver Broncos, over the league's hiring practices. The allegations he came forward with show that teams did not value his candidacy in head coaching interviews seriously.
Giants owner John Mara made it clear that he won't settle the lawsuit and stands by the way that New York went about its search for its next head coach. Flores was a lead candidate but Buffalo Bulls offensive coordinator Brian Daboll ended up with the job. Mara said that he believes that the truth about the team's practices will come out.
#Giants owner John Mara was adamant today that he is not settling the Brian Flores lawsuit:
“I’m not settling it because the allegations are false. … It was a fair process, and we ended up making the decision based on a lot of factors — none of which had to do with race.”

Flores alleges that the Giants only interviewed him to satisfy the league's requirement for interviewing minorities. New York already knowing they wouldn't hire him before their interview gives Flores a prime example of teams seeking to use him without giving him a fair shot. Although it seemed like Daboll was the favorite from the beginning, Flores may not have been given a shot to prove himself. Mara remained steadfast in his stance on the lawsuit and his franchise's hiring protocols.
Flores now works with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a defensive assistant and linebackers coach. The Giants moved forward with Daboll and a revamped coaching staff.
