Earlier this week, the New York Jets made the big splash move of trading up from the sixth overall pick in this year's draft up to the third overall spot in a swap with the Indianapolis Colts. This has put the franchise in the position of likely taking one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft class.

However, there had been questions as to why the Jets were unable to move to either one of the top two spots in the first round. According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Giants co-owner John Mara has revealed that the Jets did not contact the Giants about trading for their selection.

There had been some chatter that the Jets had attempted to talk with the Cleveland Browns to acquire the first overall pick, but those discussions didn't go very far. It has been widely expected that the Browns are heavily leaning toward taking a quarterback at the top overall selection choosing between the likes of USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, and Wyoming's Josh Allen.

Although there is no certainty that the Giants are interested in taking a quarterback, the team is in position to do so if desired at the second overall spot. The fact that the Jets did not reach out to them is a bit surprising but may have been done because of the Browns turning down their package of the sixth overall pick in this year's draft, and three second-round selections.

Nonetheless, the Jets have put themselves in a spot to possibly snag one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft to finally find a solution under center for the long haul. Meanwhile, the Giants could still move down from the pick if there is any interest in doing so as there are still several teams looking to get into near the top spot such as the Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals.

There is still plenty of time ahead of the draft for them to assess what they want to do at their pick in what could be a franchise-altering selection.
