Landon Collins can become a free agent in March, but the New York Giants are probably not going to let that happen. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network says that the Giants are probably going to place a franchise tag on Collins, which has the safety a bit frustrated.

Earlier in the week, Collins said he hopes to remain in New York, and Garafolo essentially said as much, stating that Collins is merely upset over the fact that the Giants have not held extension talks with him yet.

However, Garafolo added that contract discussions are coming soon, predicting that New York will engage Collins in such talks at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Of course, whether or not the Giants actually get a deal done with the 25-year-old is anyone's guess, but, even if they don't lock up him, they will tag him, which means that Collins will likely be a Giant in 2019 regardless.

Collins is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played in just 12 games due to a shoulder injury that ultimately required surgery. Over that time, he registered 96 tackles and a forced fumble en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance.

The New Orleans native, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by New York in the second round (33rd pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

His best season thus far came during his sophomore year in 2016, when he racked up 125 tackles, four sacks, five interceptions, a fumble recovery, 13 passes defended, and a defensive touchdown, which resulted in a trip to Honolulu and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
