The New York Giants endured quite the tumultuous 2017 NFL season. Their injury-riddled year was capped by the fractured forearm of safety Landon Collins in Week 16.

Collins recently gave a positive update on his health by saying the forearm was “100 percent.” However, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, he may reportedly need to have surgery that will require him to miss the early portion of offseason conditioning:

Giants S Landon Collins’ arm isn’t healing as quickly as docs would hope and might soon undergo surgery to plate the break again, sources say. Timeline for a recovery would be about six to eight weeks to return to full football activity. So he’d miss the spring, be back for camp.

The news strikes a blow to the Giants, who are already extremely thin in the secondary. Despite coming off a down year in 2017, Collins is still considered to be one of the top safeties in the NFL after his tremendous MVP-caliber season in 2016.

There has been plenty of more optimism surrounding the Giants organization amidst the significant changes they have made this offseason. One of the notable recent headlines was the burying of the hatchet between Collins and cornerback Eli Apple. Needless to say, it seems both players have now realized there are more pressing matters to deal with at the moment.

Should Collins go through with the surgery, then it is likely that will miss the entirety of organized team activities. Fortunately, the timetable will allow for him to make his return at some point before training camp in late July.
