The New York Giants are moving through the second half of what has been a largely disappointing campaign for the franchise, being out of the mix for the playoffs.

They will head into Week 14 action against the Washington Redskins without one of their key defensive talents in safety Landon Collins due to a shoulder injury that he suffered against the Chicago Bears, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.

Collins has been the backbone of their secondary over the last couple of years and is putting together another highly productive campaign with a team-best 96 total tackles, a forced fumble, and four pass deflections.

He has played in every game so far this season, as this will mark the second straight year that he will have fallen short of being able to take the field in all 16 regular season games. Despite missing this game, he should be well on his way to notching north of 100 tackles in each of his first four seasons.

The 24-year-old has helped provide much stability in the secondary for the Giants through his first four years, while becoming one of the league's top young safeties. He has shown the ability to be a huge factor against the run while being a capable asset against the pass.

That ability has seen him earn a pair of Pro Bowl selections and a First-Team All-Pro nod in his first three full seasons in the league.

His absence leaves a sizable hole in the secondary that will put more pressure on cornerbacks B.W. Webb and Janoris Jenkins to provide more stable play against the pass.

The Giants appear to have a favorable matchup against the Redskins, who are rolling with their third quarterback this season in recently signed Mark Sanchez after both starter Alex Smith and backup Colt McCoy were lost for the rest of the season due to injury.
