The New York Giants have claimed wide receiver Dante Pettis off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers, according to the team, via Pro Football Talk.

The 49ers waived Pettis on Tuesday after failing to find a trade partner for the wideout. The Giants received a roster exemption from the NFL while Pettis is in the six-day COVID-19 protocol, per Pro Football Talk.

Dante Pettis played in five games for the 49ers this season, but he didn't record a single catch. In 28 games with the 49ers, Pettis has 38 receptions for 576 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Giants, after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in Week 8, dropped to 1-7 on the season. They are in last place in the NFC East standings and will miss the playoffs for the fourth straight campaign.

Whenever Pettis is ready to play for the Giants, he should see significant playing time and targets since New York doesn't really have any explosive playmakers on offense other than Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard.
