The New York Giants got thinner at their wide receiver position on Wednesday. As a matter of fact, New York actually granted Da'Mari Scott's request to be released per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

The second-year wideout asked to be released from the team so he could seek other opportunities. Just last Friday, Scott had an impressive 37-yard reception against the Chicago Bears in the Giants' second preseason game.

Earlier this offseason, New York claimed Scott off of waivers after he was released by the Buffalo Bills. Scott was active for the Bills in three games in 2018.

Before the Giants and Bills, Scott was actually signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns out of Fresno State in 2018. The rookie receiver was waived by Cleveland in December ahead of his arrival in Buffalo.

For Scott, even with Golden Tate's apparent suspension, the Giants may not have room for him to have a role on the roster. Sterling Shepard is progressing towards his return from a fractured thumb and there are other wide receivers who have shown that they can produce for them.

Prior to his release, Scott was going to have to compete with Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler, Russell Shepard, and T.J. Jones for a spot at wide receiver. Considering that, it was likely in his best interest to seek another team to join ahead of the 2019 season.

With teams expected to cut down to 53 players in the coming weeks, Scott should have a chance to land with a team in the near future.
