Daniel Jones didn't even have to throw a pass before getting welcomed to the Bronx.

The Giants’ first-round pick out of Duke attended Monday night’s Yankees game against the Rays, and received boos when he was shown on the jumbotron at the Stadium in between innings.

The 22-year-old quarterback, who is expected to learn behind Eli Manning after being taken sixth overall by Big Blue, was a controversial selection. Most experts didn’t expect him to be taken so early, though he did impress Giants coaches and teammates during spring workouts.

Despite that fact, though, Jones has mostly been immune to that criticism, with most of the vitriol directed at the Giants GM and front office, whom many thought could have taken Jones later at 17.

Yankees fans, however, aren’t willing to give him the benefit of the doubt apparently.

Gettleman has said he wanted a quarterback with the mental toughness — a necessity to survive and thrive in New York — and Monday night’s experience is one example of what Jones will be facing until he survives and thrives on the field.

Two years ago, Chicagoans booed Mitchell Trubisky at a Bulls game. They surely wouldn’t boo him now, after the Bears made the playoffs last season and are seen by some as a Super Bowl darkhorse. Is there some comfort somewhere, deep down in there, for Jones? Maybe, in a few years, New Yorkers will feel the same way about Jones if he does well on the field.
