There had been reports about the New York Giants potentially working out a deal with the Denver Broncos. Now it seems to have finally gone through.

The Broncos had been shopping punter Riley Dixon over the last few weeks and they finally found a suitor. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants have acquired Dixon in exchange for a 2019 seventh-round pick:

It goes without saying that this move hardly sends tremors throughout the league. However, it is apparent that teams understand the importance of putting some emphasis on their special teams. New York managed to add one of the more promising young punters in the league.

Denver had selected Dixon with the 228th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Syracuse. He won the starting job in training camp and made an immediate impact on their special teams unit. His 41.3 net average was the highest by a rookie in NFL history and was even named to the All-Rookie team.

Although Dixon may have taken a step back during the 2017 campaign, he still finished as one of the most stable options in the league. He averaged 45.6 yards per punt with a 40.2-yard net and had 23 punts downed inside the 20. However, he landed on the trading block as soon as the team decided to sign former Oakland Raiders punter Marquette King following his surprising release.

While he may no longer have the benefit of the altitude at Mile-High Stadium, Dixon should still serve as a viable option for New York with the departure of punter Brad Wing.
