The New York Giants have fired head coach Pat Shurmur after two years in the Big Apple according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Shurmur led the Giants to a 9-23 record during his time in New York. This season the Giants had 4-12 record and finished with a disappointing blowout loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.

Shurmur was asked after the loss about his status with the team and he seemed to know what was coming. He talked about how it's a wins business and he understood if the team decided to move on from him.

“This is a ‘wins' business — I get it, I get it,” Shurmur said via Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “We've been talking about [my job] for, I think, about six weeks. You've been asking me the same questions for six weeks. So, I don't know if I'm getting good at answering them, but I'm answering them a lot. But, that's the reality of this business. When you don't win, that's the line of questioning. Listen, I get that, I get that.”

There is no doubt that Shurmur's teams struggled but not all of it was his fault. Last season he had an aging Eli Manning who had problems producing. This season he had rookie Daniel Jones who went through some growing pains, and Manning who was even worse than last season. On defense, the team was also lacking some major talent and that led to a lot of the struggles.

With the Giants now in the market for a new coach they need to make sure they hit on a hire that can take Jones up to the next level.
