The New York Giants seemed to have a need at pass rush heading into the draft, but they didn't address it turns out a big reason is they are expecting a big leap from linebacker Lorenzo Carter.

Last year the Giants only had 30 sacks and they traded away linebacker Oliver Vernon so there are some big questions how that number is going to improve.

Giants outside linebackers coach Mike Dawson said the team is expecting big things in Carter's second year.

“Hopefully a big jump from him from year one to year two,” Lawson said via nj.com.

Last season Carter was a big part of the linebacker rotation but now being the starter this year the expectations are higher.

“He’s got the tools where he’s strong enough, he’s got the athletic ability,” Dawson said. “Really kind of getting to know this language. He was in kind of a 3-4 system in college, but some of the terms are different. It may be the same term, just named something different, and having to process that in your head.”

“Now when you don’t have to think about that, it’s just natural where you just kind of react, I think that helps you play a little bit better.”

The team is putting a lot of faith in Carter and if he doesn't take the big step forward there is no doubt going to be some questions raised about the Giants decisions offseason.

As long as Carter can learn all the language the Giants are confident their belief in him will pay off in a big way.
