New York Giants wide receiver Corey Coleman has struggled to find his footing thus far in his career. Regardless, it appears they have high expectations for him in the 2019 NFL season.

Coleman has been adamant about a potential resurgence in 2019. According to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com, head coach Pat Shurmer feels the same way.

“We are going to see the best of [Coleman],” Giants coach Pat Shurmur said. “He’s the first one to tell you when he came in the league, he had a lot to learn. Now he’s got an opportunity to maybe be a front-line player.”

The fact that New York suddenly seems to be all in on Coleman at this point may come as a bit surprising. He was initially taken by the Cleveland Browns with the 15th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he struggled to follow through on the hype that comes with being a former first-rounder after failing to etch out a consistent role in the offense.

As a result, Coleman was soon traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a seventh-round pick. He would later enjoy a brief stint with the New England Patriots before signing with the New York Giants as a member of their practice squad. By the time he had been promoted to the active roster, it would be too late in the season to make a meaningful impact.

Fortunately, it appears New York is hoping Coleman can pick up right where he left off. The Giants lost some serious firepower with the departure of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason. It will take a collective effort from the receiving corps to help fill the void.
