The New York Giants managed to secure their potential franchise quarterback in Daniel Jones. It appears he is already starting to show flashes of promise.

New York has gotten an ample look at Jones through OTAs and minicamp. According to Chris Simms of NBC Sports, he has left a strongly positive impression on the Giants organization:

“As I started to hear (positive) reports, and things go by, you talk to people. I talked to a few people with the Giants who just gave these glowing responses about Daniel Jones,” Simms said.

It is encouraging to see that Jones has already started to vindicate the Giants' investment. New York made a big gamble in taking him with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The hope is that he will serve as a potential successor to quarterback Eli Manning in the near future. For now, the Giants are hoping to take their time with his development.

The Giants have ushered in significant changes to their roster this offseason. They lost some firepower in the receiver corps after trading Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. Furthermore, there are still questions regarding their protection up front. Although the emergence of running back Saquon Barkley has provided a silver lining amid their current rebuild, these are not the most ideal situations to throw a rookie into.

Fortunately, New York is confident that Manning will help the Giants remain competitive while Jones continues to progress. Given all that transpired last season, Jones may be called upon earlier than expected.
