It appears that Olivier Vernon's run with the New York Giants is coming to a close.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Giants are considering trading the pass rusher, and Jordan Ranaan of ESPN NFL Nation reports that if New York can't find a deal for Vernon, they could potentially cut him.

Vernon is set to make $15.5 million next season, and for a rebuilding team like the Giants, that might be too steep of a price.

The 28-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played in 11 games and registered 30 tackles, seven sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance.

The trip to Honolulu was certainly odd, as Vernon has had much better seasons in the past without earning Pro Bowl selections.

The Giants originally signed Vernon to a five-year, $85 million contract back in March 2016, and his first year in New York was a good one, as he finished with 64 tackles, 8.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in helping comprise one of the best defenses in the NFL.

However, injuries have limited Vernon the past couple of seasons, as he also missed four games in 2017 and recorded 37 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception, and a couple of forced fumbles.

The Miami native, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Miami Dolphins in the third round (72nd pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

His best season came during his second year in 2013, when he racked up 57 stops and 11.5 sacks.
