In the last couple of weeks, the New York Giants have become squared in on moving on from veteran left tackle Ereck Flowers this NFL offseason. However, the front office has had a difficult time finding a suitable trade in exchange for him due to high asking price the team had in place prior to the draft.

This along with Flowers deciding not to show up for voluntary workouts has made it a hard situation for the Giants. According to Paul Schwartz of The New York Post, the team has elected for the time being to keep ahold of the 24-year-old despite the current standing on both sides.

Of course they are not happy Flowers has chosen to accent the “voluntary’’ description of the offseason workouts and last week’s three-day minicamp by staying away from the team facility. But that irritation will not yet lead to an immediate parting of ways with the highly disappointing 2015 first-round pick, The Post has learned.

Flowers is set to enter the final year of his four-year, $14.3 million deal that will pay him roughly $4.6 million for the 2018 NFL season. There is a $12.5 million fifth-year option on the contract, but it is unlikely that the front office will decide to pick that up prior to the May 3 deadline.

It has become a jumbled situation that was only further emphasized after the team decided to ink former New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder to a deal via free agency this offseason. It has not only put him in direct competition with Flowers for the starting job but also sent a clear message that the team isn't satisfied with his performance on the field.

With Flowers electing to stay away from the team due to his unhappiness with the situation, it could force the Giants hand to make a move to resolve the matter. There could be much more to come on this front in the coming weeks with training camp around the corner.
