The New York Giants are getting underway on their interviews to replace Pat Shurmur as the team's head coach. On Saturday, New York is set to interview Baltimore Ravens' defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

With the Ravens boasting the best record in the NFL, both of their coordinators are receiving interest from other teams to become a head coach. Martindale has spent the past two seasons in Baltimore as the team's defensive coordinator.

Before becoming the defensive coordinator, Martindale spent the previous six seasons as the franchise's linebackers coach. Since he was promoted, the Ravens have had a top-five ranked defense in both seasons.

This season, Baltimore owns the fourth-best defense in the NFL, allowing 300.6 total yards per game. The Ravens also forced the eighth-most turnovers in 2019 with 25 takeaways. Their productivity on defense is a far cry from what the Giants did.

Besides the numbers, Martindale is beloved by the players in Baltimore's locker room. Of course, having the respect of the locker room is one of the most important details of being a successful head coach in the NFL. That likely piqued the Giants' attention.

If Martindale is hired for the head coaching position with the Giants, it is believed that the lead candidate for his offensive coordinator position is Joe Brady. Brady currently serves as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at LSU.

The 30-year-old assistant spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons with the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant under Sean Payton. Due to his knowledge of putting together a successful offense, Brady is a coveted assistant by some NFL teams.

A pairing of Martindale and Brady would be a home run for the Giants in the offseason. However, it remains to be seen if Martindale is near the top of New York's list of candidates. The search for the Giants' next coach will likely continue through the weekend.
