New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has grabbed headlines recently after he was critical of his team’s lack of “heart” and “energy” as well as quarterback Eli Manning’s performance during a recent interview with ESPN.

But despite receiving some criticism for his harsh words, Beckham believes he did what was right for the team. He claims he did it because he's “trying to be a leader” and does not regret anything he said. He also believes his comments helped bring the team together.

“I don't regret anything that I said,” Beckham said per Matt Lombardo of NJ.com. “If it took that for us to come together as a team, like we did today, I can take that every single time. I kind of spoke to the team, just to relay the message that sometimes stuff comes off the wrong way. Words can be portrayed in any kind of light.”

It’s impossible to say whether or not Beckham’s comments actually did have a positive effect on the team. But no one can deny that they had their best performance of the year on Sunday against the Panthers and would have won had it not been for an incredible game-winning 63-yard field goal.

Despite that positive performance, there will likely still be people critical of Beckham and his chosen “leadership” style to call people out publicly. However, Beckham sounds as if he’s not ready to change, which could mean that people will continue to hear from him if the Giants don’t manage to turn things around.
