Despite the speculation about his future, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was in attendance for the start of the New York Giants’ offseason conditioning program, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur confirmed.

Shurmur isn’t worried about whether the trade talk would bother his star wideout. Moreover, he believes OBJ’s presence in the first day of workouts is proof of his professionalism.

Per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY:

Asked if he was worried that all the trade talk would bother Odell Beckham, Shurmur said “I'm not worried about it. I really believe Odell is a professional. He wants to be great.”

Beckham was not in attendance during Eli Manning's annual workouts at Duke, which raised some eyebrows. However, it was subsequently reported that he'd report for the start of the team's offseason program, which he did.

Beckham is looking to get a big new contract from the Giants, which the team might be a bit hesitant to give to him given his recent off-field controversies. While it’s promising that he’s showed up for offseason workouts, there is still the looming threat of him holding out. There has been speculation that Beckham won’t set foot on the field without that new contract.

Until Beckham gets that new contract (or is dealt to a new team, which is reportedly “highly unlikely”), the whole saga surrounding the star wideout will loom large over New York.

However, those are problems that Shurmur can tackle at another time. For now, it’s a big step in the right direction that Beckham is in the facility, which should help alleviate some of the tension between him and the team.
