New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur has tried to make it clear many times that there is no quarterback controversy this season, but his comments lately about Daniel Jones have ramped back up those rumors. Talking to the media, Shurmur said Eli Manning is getting ready to have a big year, but he also said Jones is preparing like he could start Week 1 and “you never know what is going to happen” with the situation:

Jones hasn't taken any snaps with the first team yet this offseason, but he has taken every opportunity he can with the second team to build chemistry. Giants tight end Scott Simonson has been impressed with what he has seen from Jones and how well he has played with the second team:

“Anytime you can see when a quarterback likes to go to certain guys in certain situations,” Simonson said, per nj.com. “who he builds that trust, where he places the ball, he’s starting to develop that with all of the wide receivers and tight ends that he’s throwing to.”

“He sees where each guy excels and how,” Simonson said. “Whether that’s a guy is more physical or with speed, and stuff like that. He’s doing a really good job picking it all up.”

All signs still point toward Jones staying with the second team and Manning beginning the season as the starting quarterback, but Shurmur seems to be keeping his options open.
