It's a big deal for the New York Giants to change quarterbacks so early in the season after sticking with Eli Manning for so long. This is probably why Giants head coach Pat Shurmur let his predecessor and current Jacksonville Jaguars executive vice president for football operations Tom Coughlin in on the situation.

The former Giants head coach was straightforward with how things went down to the press. The New York Post transcribed how it happened on Coughlin's end.

“Pat Shurmur actually said to me, ‘He’s your guy and I wanted you to know that I had a very difficult thing today,’ ” Coughlin…recalled on Friday about Shurmur’s move to rookie first-round pick Daniel Jones at quarterback. “And I told Pat, ‘Yeah, he is my guy, and guess what? He’ll always be my guy.’”

Shurmur also explained why he made the decision to let him know.

“I felt it was the right thing to do to call. Tom and I have a great relationship. We’ve become friends in the profession. It was just one of those things. Eli and Tom are forever connected. They won two Super Bowls together. When you make a move like that, it was out of respect.”

Coughlin would know better than anyone that Shurmur did what he did in order to push the Giants forward. Jones made one heck of a first impression to his home crowd that ticket prices for his home debut are through the roof.

While Brett Favre believes that he Manning didn't want things to happen this way, no one can take away what he did for the Giants organization. He brought the team two Super Bowl titles and threw more than 56000 yards in his 16-year career with the team. His legacy within the team will never be replaced.
