The New York Giants are in the middle of a major rebuild. The 2019 NFL Draft could prove immensely pivotal for the struggling NFC East franchise. While many around the league believe the Giants will select a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick, it appears head coach Pat Shurmur has a broader approach. New York owns several first-round picks.

Pat Shurmur has publicly stated that he hopes the Giants come away with a few defensive starters as a result of the 2019 NFL Draft.

“That is the idea,” Shurmur said at a recent press conference, via NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. “We have some high picks, so you look to get some guys that can help. A lot of times, guys that are significant role players function in roles as starters. We are looking at everyone we pick to be able to contribute. That is the exciting thing about the draft. There are plenty of really good players at all positions. We are going to pick guys that we feel can contribute.”

The lowly Giants have remained quite active this offseason, most notably trading All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who is now a member of the up-and-coming Cleveland Browns. Veteran quarterback Eli Manning remains under center, though the NFC East franchise will almost certainly select the team's next signal caller in late April.
