New York Giants Saquon Barkley is the heavy favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award. It appears for NFL running back Rashad Jennings is doubling down on that notion.

Barkley enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign despite New York's struggles in the 2018 NFL season. Jennings is adamant that he deserves to walk away with the honor, via TMZ Sports.

“Hands down,” Jennings said. “Hands down. He should win Rookie of the Year. If he doesn't win Rookie of the Year, we got some problems. We got to go back to the drawing board.”

Jennings' comments should come as no surprise. He had high praise for Barkley prior to the 2018 NFL Draft. He even went so far as to say the rookie would eventually be presented with a gold jacket one day. For now, he will settle for him winning Rookie of the Year.

It is easy to see why Barkley is pegged as the favorite to take home the award. There was plenty of hype surrounding him throughout the draft process. The Giants caught some flak for taking a running back at No. 2 overall. However, he has proven to be the rare exception to the rule this season.

Barkley finished the 2018 campaign with 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns on 261 carries. He also flexed his pass-catching ability out of the backfield by hauling in 91 receptions for 721 yards and four touchdowns. Although Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield managed to make headlines with his stellar play this year, it pales in comparison to what Barkley was able to accomplish.
