The New York Giants will be cutting their veteran linebacker Conor Barwin. About a week or so ago Barwin announced on his Instagram page that the team would be moving on from him. The team made it official today, per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

Barwin joined the Giants last season on a two-year contract. The team had expected to keep the linebacker around for the long term, but he seemed expendable. The 32-year old's cap hit of 1.5 million was an easy cut for the team.

Barwin over the past couple of seasons has taken on a backup role. Often times defensive players are placed in those positions after they turn 30. They can no longer physically handle the rigors of a full-time spot.

Last season, Barwin played in 15 total games for the Giants. He started three out of their first five games, but after that, he was benched and didn't get nearly as much playing time. In those first five games, he played 192 defensive snaps. For the rest of the season, he was a limited contributor. He only played 97 snaps on the defensive side of the ball.

The Giants were his fourth NFL team. He made stops with the Houston Texans and the Philadelphia Eagles for the longest period of time, the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, and the Giants.

His best season came in 2014 with the Eagles, where he had 14.5 sacks with 64 tackles and 15 tackles for a loss.

Even though he is aging, Barwin provides depth at the pass rushing spot on either side. It will be intriguing to see who picks him up moving forward.
