Former New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford and Super Bowl championship posted on Facebook that his Super Bowl ring was stolen. Weatherford said that he had given his wife the Super Bowl ring to put in her purse which was left in a car. The entire purse was stolen, and Weatherford hasn’t been able to get the ring back:
“No, it’s not a joke,” Weatherford wrote. “Recently, a string of car break-ins happened in my neighborhood — all in one night, eight cars were broken into.
“I gave my ring to my wife the night before after speaking at an event, she put it in her purse, and… Well, if anyone sees a Super Bowl XLVI ring on eBay with a name largely engraved on the side – WEATHERFORD – kindly text me.”
Weatherford also asked Giants co-owner John Mara for another ring be made, and went as far as to say that he would be willing to pay for it:
“I’m hoping Mr. Mara reads this, and has the kindness in his heart to ask Tiffany & Co. to dig up that glorious 2012 mold, make me a replacement Super Bowl ring to give to my son one day.”
“P.S. Mr Mara, I’m insured, I got the loot I just need permission.”
Hopefully whoever took the ring will return it so that Weatherford doesn’t have to get another one made.
Weatherford’s last full season was with the Giants in 2014, but he also did play one game in 2015 with the New York Jets before hanging up the cleats.
