The New York Giants were able to bring in their future successor in quarterback Daniel Jones through the 2019 NFL Draft. It seems both sides have now managed to come to terms on a new deal ahead of training camp.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Jones and the Giants have an agreement for his rookie contract in place:

The Giants and 1st round QB Daniel Jones have an agreement in principle on his rookie contract.

New York can now focus on developing Jones as their future franchise quarterback. While there has been plenty of speculation regarding when he will take over, it appears the coaching staff may elect to take a cautious approach with his progression.

Quarterback Eli Manning is slated to take over as the starter despite a rough couple of years. There is some optimism that the veteran Manning will be able to hold things down under center and allow the Giants to be competitive. Of course, that may prove to be a bit more difficult with the loss of some serious firepower in the receiving corps following the departure of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason.

With all the questions surrounding the offense, perhaps it is best that Jones sits back and continues to work on his game. The rookie will one day be tasked with leading this team to the promised land, however, the Giants are hoping that the day does not come before he is ready. It will be interesting to see if Jones gets an opportunity to put his skill set on display in 2019.
