In the weeks leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft, there has been much uncertainty around what the New York Giants plan to do with the second overall pick. There had been the assumption that the team would take heir apparent to Eli Manning as his career winds down in New York, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

In fact, this talk has suggested that the team may take another positional player with their commitment to Manning being under center as the starter at least through the final two years of his contract. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the only quarterback that the team may have some significant interest in taking as the second overall spot looks to be USC's Sam Darnold.

Darnold has long been presumed to be in line to be selected as the top overall pick by the Cleveland Browns. This notion was only further fueled following his strong showing at the USC Pro Day on Wednesday despite the rain being a factor. The Browns have hinted at this possibly being the case with subtle tweets about Darnold.

This should the Giants in the position to still select from a number of other talented quarterbacks in UCLA's Josh Rosen, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, or Wyoming's Josh Allen. There are also a few other highly intriguing options at other positions such as Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and North Carolina State defensive end Bradley Chubb.

Although the Giants looked poised to pass up on potentially taking their future franchise quarterback, things could change in this regard over the next few weeks leading up to the draft next month. The front office can bring in any number of players for a private workout to further assess them. However, if things remain the same in that regard New York could very well be Darnold or bust for quarterbacks at the second overall selection come late April.
