New York Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley knows quite a bit about Penn State football seeing as, well, he played for the Nittany Lions for three years.

On Tuesday, Barkley took to Twitter to pay tribute to his former Penn State teammate Trace McSorley, who saw his collegiate career come to an end after a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in the Citrus Bowl.

That's some pretty high praise for McSorley, as Penn State is a program rich with history.

During his final season with the Nittany Lions, McSorley threw for 2,285 yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing just 53.5 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 124.2. He also carried the ball 151 times for 723 yards and 11 scores.

This was actually McSorley's worst season at Penn State.

When he took over as the starting quarterback during his sophomore campaign, McSorley finished with 3,614 yards, 29 touchdowns, and eight picks, completing 57.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 156.9.

Then, during his junior season, the Ashburn, Va. native totaled 3,570 yards, 28 scores, and 10 interceptions while recording a completion percentage of 66.5 percent and a passer rating of 153.7.

It may seem odd that McSorley actually declined during his senior season, but that probably had a lot to do with the fact that Barkley was no longer there to take pressure off of him.

Barkley had an incredible rookie campaign with the Giants, racking up 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground while averaging five yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 91 receptions for 721 yards and four scores.
