It didn't take long for New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley to become a star in the NFL. In his first season, he made the Pro Bowl while acting the part of a blossoming superstar.

In his second season, however, he didn't repeat. Though the No. 1 overall pick in many fantasy football drafts, Barkley didn't have the season deserving of another Pro Bowl bid. While missing three out of 14 games with an ankle injury, the second-year tailback has 722 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Barkley knows he didn't deserve a spot:

The Pro Bowl is dope. I went there last year. It’s an awesome experience. But it’s not the end all be all. I don’t think I was even anywhere close to deserving to be in the Pro Bowl,” Barkley said on Thursday, via Tom Rock of Newsday. “Congrats to all the running backs who made it.”

For as fun as the Pro Bowl may be, Barkley could not care less about the meaningless competition. Going to Orlando isn't why he plays. Winning is. Unfortunately, the Giants haven't done much of that since his arrival in 2018, going 8-22 in the last 30 games.

Barkley is going to use this poor season as motivation:

“Does it motivate me? No. What motivates me is that we’re going home in two weeks,” Barkley said. “That’s the only motivation I have, that we’re not on a playoff run or with a chance to go to the playoffs. That’s going to be my motivation all this offseason.”

The Giants appear primed to usher in a youth movement in New York, with rookie Daniel Jones acting as Barkley's quarterback. If that doesn't eventually turn into wins, the only bowling Barkley could be doing is of the Pro Bowl variety.
