New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley underwent successful right ACL surgery, per his mom.

Barkley tore his ACL in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears. As most athletes do, the superstar tailback waited for the swelling to go down in his knee before going under the knife, with his mother posting a photo of the hospitalized rusher (via Bleacher Report).

Saquon Barkley will obviously miss the rest of the 2020 season. Former Giants star wideout Odell Beckham Jr., who plays for the Cleveland Browns now, also tore his ACL recently.

The Giants are optimistic that Barkley will be ready to go for the start of the 2021 season. The 23-year-old, one of the best youngsters in the game, has carried the ball 497 times for the Giants since getting drafted by New York in 2018 with the second overall pick out of Penn State. He has rushed for 2,344 yards and scored 17 touchdowns on the ground.

The Giants are only 1-6 on the season. They will likely miss the playoffs again. New York hasn't made the postseason since 2016, when the Giants lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card game by a final score of 38-13 at Lambeau Field.

In Week 8 of the 2020 season, the Giants will face Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Barring a miracle, New York will likely lose that game to drop to 1-7 on the campaign.
