When New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley return to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears, bad memories will certainly come. After all, it was where his 2020 season ended following a brutal ACL injury.

Nonetheless, Barkley seems ready for it. While it will be difficult, he is focused on getting over the past and moving forward in his career as he tries to return to his old dominant self.

“Try not to think about it. But it happened,” Barkley said of his return to Windy City and the ugly memories of his injury, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “I really don't try to think about it, I guess, probably more so last year [I did], but this is a whole different season.”

Saquon Barkley tore the ACL in his right knee in Week 2 of the 2020 season, and the Giants star endured a difficult rehab process to return to the field. He was able to be healthy in time for the 2021 campaign, though it was clear he wasn't the same player he was prior to his injury.

This season alone, he has made just two rushing touchdowns on 461 yards. For what it's worth, in 13 games in 2019, he put up 1003 yards and six TDs.

Of course it isn't easy coming back from a substantial injury, and hopes are high the 24-year-old RB can reclaim his old form soon. Despite his struggles, though, he is not to a point to hate Solider Field over how it changed his career.

“No, I'm not thinking like, ‘I hate the field,'” Barkley added. “I'm excited that I'm healthy enough to be able to go out there and be able to play another game. Like I said, you never know when these opportunities are going to be taken away from you. That's my whole mindset is cherish these last two games that we have and go out there and try to finish on a high note.”

The Giants are out of contention for the postseason at 4-11, but the last two games of the campaign surely won't be a waste. It is undoubtedly crucial for Barkley to slay the horrors of his past in his attempt to lead New York to the promised land.
