Saquon Barkley's New York Giants career certainly hasn't gone as planned. Barkley has yet to provide a worthy sequel to his strong rookie season as he has succumbed to injuries in the years since, putting new Giants GM Joe Schoen in an interesting spot. Schoen can opt to trade Barkley or stick with him and hope that the former number two overall pick can find his form from 2018. On Tuesday, Schoen spoke to reporters and delivered an honest take on a possible Barkley trade, via ESPN.

“We're still working through that, but I'm open to everything,” Schoen said. “Like whether it's trading player for player; I'll listen to anybody. If it's trading a couple players — I'm not going to say the entire roster, [that] we're open for business on the entire roster. But if anyone is going to call and they're interested in any of our players. I'm certainly going to listen.

“Again, we're in a situation where unfortunately we have to get under the salary cap. We're not in very good salary-cap health. Again, I'm not going to say yes to every deal, but I'm definitely going to listen and be open to the situations that are best for the New York Giants.”

Joe Schoen is basically saying that he'll be open to trade talks for Saquon Barkley. He won't turn down calls. In other words, Barkley isn't considered untouchable by the Giants.

It's amazing that the Giants have even gotten to the point where a former top pick in the draft isn't locked into the roster. However, it's a product of not only Barkley's injuries, but Schoen's commitment to getting under the salary cap.

Schoen would love to see Barkley get another chance with the Giants. However, if that's not best for New York, then it won't happen.
