New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley kickstarted the offseason by putting on one of the best performances in NFL Combine history. He has now kicked things up a notch with training camp rapidly approaching.

Barkley's physical prowess is one of the reasons why he was widely considered the most talented prospect in the draft. He and Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley reminded everyone what it takes to become a workhorse back in the NFL, via SportsCenter:

It is encouraging to see Barkley train with arguably the best running back in the NFL. Gurley is coming off a spectacular 2017 campaign in which he was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year. However, his success did not come without its fair share of hardships.

Gurley burst onto the scene thanks to a stellar rookie season. Unfortunately, it was soon followed up by a tumultuous 2016 campaign that resulted in plenty of doubt about whether or not his rookie year was just a fluke. Needless to say, he has managed to prove the doubters wrong since then and it is safe to assume that workouts like these are the reason why.

There has been plenty of hype surrounding Barkley going into the 2018 NFL season given his status as a No. 2 overall pick. The Giants passed up on quarterback Eli Manning's potential successor and a number of quality defensive players in the hope they would be able to establish a dynamic run game.

This means Barkley will need to make an immediate impact if he is to avoid any doubts about his status as a top draft pick. Fortunately, he appears to be well on his way to imitating Gurley's success on the field.
