New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has officially been named the Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Professional Football Writers of America.

It probably comes as no surprise that Barkley would earn such an honor, especially considering just how dominant he was in his first season in the NFL.

The former Penn State star set numerous records during his rookie year, and that was enough for the PFWA to hand him their most prestigious award for offensive rookies.

Barkley had 261 carries for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season while racking up 91 receptions for 721 yards and four scores.

While the Giants didn't have the type of season that they wanted, there's no doubt that Barkley played a huge role in the team's ability to at least find a rhythm on offense more often than not.

Having a player like him on the field is an invaluable asset, and New York must take advantage of that moving forward by making necessary tweaks on both sides of the ball so that the team can return to being a playoff contender in the NFC.

This will be a crucial offseason for the Giants, as they'll have plenty of issues to address in preparation for the start of the 2019 season in September.

No matter what, it's clear that Barkley will continue to be the driving force on offense.
