The New York Giants may have picked up their first win of the season behind an extraordinary effort from rookie quarterback Daniel Jones against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past Sunday, but it wasn't all lollipops and rainbows for the Giants.

New York lost running back Saquon Barkley during the victory, as the superstar exited the game with a high-ankle sprain in the first half and spent the rest of the contest on crutches on the sideline.

Barkley is expected to miss several weeks with the injury, and as a result, backup halfback Wayne Gallman is being thrust into the starting role.

But Gallman says he is prepared for the challenge:

“I view it as a big opportunity, an opportunity I’ve had since I came into the league,” Gallman said, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “It’s unfortunate for my brother to go out, but this is what I’ve prepared for, this is what I have been preparing for, so I’m ready for it.”

Gallman carried the ball five times for 13 yards against the Buccaneers, and on the season overall, he has toted the ball seven times for 30 yards and a touchdown while catching three passes for 24 yards.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Clemson, was originally selected by the Giants in the fourth round (140th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He played in 13 games during his rookie campaign, rushing for 476 yards while averaging 4.3 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 34 receptions for 193 yards and a score.

His role then decreased last season, as he appeared in 15 contests but totaled just 176 yards and a touchdown on the ground, registering 3.5 yards per attempt.
