The New York Giants looked to bolster their roster and improve their chances of winning in the upcoming season by acquiring an impressive haul of young players in the 2020 NFL Draft. Big Blue didn't expect to see Alabama safety Xavier McKinney still on the board come the 36th pick of the second round. However, they were quick to take him when they had the chance to do so.

The rookie shared his opinion with John Schmeelk of Giants.com about how he can fit in with his new team:

“I've always said this and I'll always keep saying it, my biggest comfort zone is I'm comfortable anywhere … Any zone that I feel like I'm uncomfortable at, I try to make it my comfort zone. But how I play and the way I play, I'm comfortable at any level of the defense. I try not to just pinpoint one thing that I do well. I'm just excited to be ready for wherever the opportunity might be.”

McKinney was a major contributor during his time with Alabama. He was named first-team All-SEC selection in 2019 and led the Crimson Tide's defense with 95 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss and three sacks. He also led the SEC with four forced fumbles, tied for second-most in Alabama history. The rookie hopes to replicate the same level of production under Giants head coach Joe Judge, who also served as an assistant coach to Alabama's Nick Saban.

His defensive prowess will be a welcome addition to Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who saw his team rank 25th in the league in net yards allowed per game. The Giants are looking to improve from their 4-12 record and ultimately aiming to return to the playoffs after a three-year absence.
