Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant was let go by the Dallas Cowboys just over a month ago, and he's yet to sign with another organization. He initially expressed interest to stay in the division to play against his now-former team.
At that same token, Bryant hasn't received much interest aside from the Baltimore Ravens offering him a multi-year contract, which he turned down. During a recent appearance on NFL Network's Total Access, reporter Jane Slater stated that the 29-year-old may be holding out because he wants to land with the New York Giants at some point this offseason. “Right now, it’s a little bit about revenge. I think he’s holding out to see if New York happens to have a need come training camp, and I have to tell you that selfishly, I’d love to see Dez in this division. Covering the Cowboys as much as I do, because I think that he’d make a matchup that’s already entertaining now that we have Saquon Barkley and Ezekiel Elliott, now adding Dez Bryant, and I think you have a very interesting division.”
It's no secret that Bryant has significant interest in joining the Giants, but that hasn't translated to the team pursuing him yet. Instead, it appears to be a one-sided situation with him staying available on the market, even working out with All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason.
After the Giants made the decision to part ways with Brandon Marshall after one season, there were rumors that they'd pursue Bryant, but that didn't play pout. Things could pick up if the team feels there is a need to add another impact wideout.
What could come into play is New York's salary cap situation, as they are currently a bit tight with their financial flexibility with just over $8 million in salary cap space. If Bryant is able to take a step down from his asking price and the Giants feel there is a need, things could quickly get moving on this end.
