To say Eli Apple's short career with the New York Giants has been disappointing might be the greatest understatement of the decade. The first-round Ohio State product has been nothing but tough to take for the Giants organization and all of its fans.

Now, it appears as though he may be a prime candidate to be moved, according to Jordan Ranaan of ESPN New York.

“The 2016 first-round pick was suspended, benched and had confrontations with coaches and teammates this past season. It could benefit everyone involved if he went elsewhere. Apple is talented, but the Giants need to shake up the locker room, and he could warrant some value via trade.”

Forget poor play. That was the least of Apple's concerns this past season. Incidents between himself and Landon Collins and other coaches on the staff highlighted what was a disastrous 3-13 campaign for Ben McAdoo's Jints. Numerous negative headlines were created along the bumpy ride that's gifted New York with the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

In terms of the franchise trading or cutting the two-year pro, money would be saved by doing so. Two years remain on Apple's rookie contract.

The top issue at hand is attempting to find any takers. On top of the poor play, Apple was scrutinized for appearing to give up on certain plays, especially one in particular. Against the Los Angeles Rams, Apple seemed to have given up on a wide receiver screen that eventually came his way towards the middle of the field.

With Jerry Reese out and Dave Gettleman in, the odds are heavily stacked against Apple remaining in New Jersey.

Apple, 22, played 11 games in 2017 and finished with 41 tackles and eight passes defensed.
