The New York Giants endured a nightmare 2017 season by all accounts. However, it goes without saying that their issues stemmed from the slew of key injuries early on, especially with the receiving corps. Among the notable players whose season was cut short was wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

According to Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News, his tenure with the Giants could already be coming to an end this offseason:

Marshall turns 34 in March, and before his season-ending ankle injury in October, he was hardly active or effective in the Giants' passing offense. Under new coach Pat Shurmur, offensive coordinator Mike Shula and cost-conscious GM Dave Gettleman, Marshall won't be back.

There was plenty of optimism surrounding his signing prior to last season. Some even speculated that the Giants arguably boasted the best wide receiver trio in the NFL with Marshall, Odell Beckham Jr., and Sterling Shepard. However, in an extremely unlikely turn of events, they all suffered severe injuries in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Needless to say, the rest of the season did not pan out so well, and the Giants now find themselves looking for a fresh start with a whole new coaching staff. As a result, they seemingly plan to get rid of the undesirable contracts still left on their roster.

The potential decision to part ways with Marshall should come as no surprise considering the current state of both his performance and the franchise. The veteran wideout was hardly productive prior to the injury, registering just 18 catches for 154 yards in five games.
