Since he officially requested a trade from the Houston Texans, quarterback Deshaun Watson has generated a lot of interest from teams around the NFL looking to acquire his services. But according to reports, the New York Giants are one team not interested in calling the Texans about Watson.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, who spoke on the Breaking Big Blue podcast, the Giants won’t be looking for a potential replacement for starting quarterback Daniel Jones, whether it is Watson or any other signal-caller. The Giants organization has previously spoken positively about the 23-year-old Jones, but not trading for a three-time Pro Bowler in Watson or any other quarterback speaks to their faith in the former Duke Blue Devil.

In his second season in New York, Jones completed 62.5% of his passes for 2,943 yards and 11 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 14 games. The Giants finished with a 6-10 record in the 2020 season, one game behind the Washington Football Team in the NFC East, to miss out on a spot in the playoffs.

However, even if the Giants are interested in trading for Watson, it may be difficult for them to come up with the assets needed to acquire the former Clemson quarterback, according to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano. He pointed out that the Giants only have the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, which is less enticing than what some other Watson suitors have. Furthermore, they don't have young, talented players on rookie contracts they can offer to the Texans outside of running back Saquon Barkley.

Nevertheless, the Giants’ apparent confidence in Jones as the team’s quarterback should bode well for his confidence heading into his third season. The young quarterback is hoping to take a step forward in 2021 and get New York into the playoffs.
