Daniel Jones was not greeted very kindly after the New York Giants decided to take him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Fans weren't happy and the media let the young quarterback hear it. Despite all of his critics, Jones is focusing on what he can control on the field.

New York opened up their preseason schedule tonight against the New York Jets. Jones didn't waste time shutting his doubters up with a perfect opening drive that ended with a touchdown pass.

Take a look at his first career touchdown, even if it is just a preseason touchdown, for yourself:

Jones has all of the tools to be a very successful player at the NFL level. Even though he didn't play the best competition while at Duke, he has great arm strength, accuracy, and is a very smart player as well. Many have actually compared him to the Giants' current starting quarterback, Eli Manning.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young signal caller. He will have a lot of people to prove wrong, but that doesn't seem to bother him.

Right now, fans are starting to talk about possibly being wrong. New York needs a long-term franchise quarterback and it's time that they start rooting this kid on. His strong start to the preseason opener will certainly help make that case.

All of that being said, the future is now and Jones seems to be ready to answer the call.
