Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield proved to be a man of his word when he gifted New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley with a chain in his likeness for taking home Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Barkley made a bet with the utmost confidence that he would win the award. Regardless, he admitted to having he had quite the contingency planned just in case Mayfield ran away with it, via NFL on ESPN

It is safe to say that Barkley's plan would have honored Mayfield well considering how much the word has become synonymous with his personality. Fortunately, he was able to save himself a bit of cash by securing the award and the chain with his spectacular rookie campaign.

Both young stars had hit off while making their transition into the NFL. They will forever be linked as the first two picks in the 2018 NFL Draft. Unlike most top picks, each player has done a solid job of justifying their draft spot thus far.

New York initially caught plenty of flak for taking a running back over the bevy of talented players at key positions that were available. Barkley quickly dispelled any notion of doubt by emerging as the driving force in this struggling offense.

Meanwhile, Mayfield took full advantage of his opportunity by leading the Browns on a bit of a resurgence in the 2018 campaign. Expectations in Cleveland are now higher than ever with all the additions they have made in recent years. Regardless, he will have to come to terms with the chain that never was.
