He spent his last playing year with the New York Red Bulls. Aside from his professional career, Claudio Reyna also represented the USMNT 112 times.

On July 1, 2019, it was announced that Borussia Dortmund has signed Giovanni Reyna from New York City FC on a free transfer and he will be joining Dortmund’s under-19s squad.

”Giovanni Reyna is the son of former Bundesliga player Claudio Reyna. He plays in central midfield and is without doubt a huge talent,” Dortmund academy director Lars Ricken said in a team statement.

He played with the under-19 team for 12 games where he had 4 goals and 7 assists. On January 18, 2020, Giovanni Reyna was called up and he made his Borussia Dortmund Bundesliga debut when he came on as a substitute in their 5-3 victory against FC Augsburg.

At the age of 17 years and 66 days, Giovanni Reyna became the youngest American ever to appear in a Bundesliga match — breaking the record previously held by former Dortmund player Christian Pulisic.

On February 4, 2020, he scored his first professional goal during their round-of-16 match against Werder Bremen, they lost with a score of 3-2. With his goal, he became the youngest goalscorer in German Cup history. This would, obviously, go on to help adding to Giovanni Reyna’s net worth in 2022.

Two weeks later, Giovanni Reyna became the third-youngest player to appear in a UEFA Champions League knockout game when he came on as a substitute in the 67th minute against Paris Saint-Germain. He then set up Erling Haaland’s game-winning goal, becoming the youngest American to play and record an assist in a Champions League match.

On September 19, 2020, Giovanni Reyna became the second-youngest American to score in a Bundesliga match behind Christian Pulisic after he scored in their 3-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach.

In his 3rd Bundesliga appearance of the 2020-2021 season, he assisted on 3 goals — an Emre Can header from a corner kick and a brace from Erling Haaland. Reyna became the first American to record a hat trick of assists in 1 of the 5 major European leagues since Steve Cherundolo in March 2008, he was also the youngest to achieve the feat in the Bundesliga.

During the 2021 DFB-Pokal Final, Giovanni Reyna came on as a second-half substitute as he helped Borussia Dortmund with their 4-1 victory against RB Leipzig. He then became the youngest American to appear in a domestic cup final in Europe, a record previously held by Christian Pulisic.

On November 20, 2020, Borussia Dortmund and Giovannie Reyna have agreed on a contract extension that will keep the American midfielder with the club until June 2025.

“BVB are a big club that can challenge for titles and are in all the important competitions,” Reyna said. “Young players in particular have the chance to develop here.

“I have already learned a lot in Dortmund and I want to learn a lot more in future. I look forward to being with BVB in the long term.”

For the 2021-2022 season, Reyna will wear the No. 7 jersey which was previously worn by Jadon Sancho. Unfortunately, Borussia Dortmund and the USMNT suffered a major blow as he picked up an injury during Dortmund’s match-up against VfB Stuttgart.

As for his international career, Giovanni Reyna started by playing with the United States’ youth teams. However, he was also eligible to play for the England national team because he was born in the country, and for the Portuguese and Argentine national teams because of his father.

Ultimately, he chose to play for the United States men’s national soccer team which he announced in a March 2020 interview with Sports Illustrated.

He made his debut for the USMNT seniors squad when he was called up for the matches against Wales and Panama in November 2020. He made his debut against Wales and he started and scored his first senior goal from a free kick during their 6-2 victory over Panama.

In 2019, The Guardian included Giovanni Reyna in their list of Next Generation 2019: 60 of the best young talents in world football. The following year, he was voted as U.S. Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year.

Despite the injury, Giovanni Reyna is expected to be a focal point for Borussia Dortmund and USMNT as he is one of the young cornerstones that will help them win many more trophies for years to come.

With all of that being said, were you surprised about Giovanni Reyna’s net worth in 2022?
