Gonzaga Bulldogs head men's basketball coach Mark Few was issued a citation for driving under the influence on Monday evening in Idaho.

Few was pulled over after cops were tipped off that the Gonzaga coach was driving “erratically and speeding.”

The news came as quite a shock and once it became known, Few issued an apology, per ESPN.com.

“I believe as a leader and role model, I am expected to set only the best example,” he said. “The decisions I made yesterday do not exemplify this standard and for that, I sincerely apologize to you all. I recognize that operating a motor vehicle after consuming any amount of alcohol exhibits poor judgment.”

Gonzaga has been a powerhouse program for years and years now and Few started his coaching career at the school as a graduate assistant in 1989. He took over as head coach a decade later in 1999 and hasn't looked back.

He knows he made a huge mistake and noted that it will never happen again.

“Regardless of the outcome of the pending investigation, I will never allow such a lapse in judgment to occur again. Please know that I am committed to learning from this mistake and will work to earn back your trust in me.”

Gonzaga and their athletic department released a statement as well.

“While the facts of the situation are still being evaluated, we understand its severity and the legal process that will follow,” athletic director Chris Standiford said. “As a Gonzaga employee, we respect Coach Few's right to privacy and will refrain from further comment at this time.”
