The Philadelphia Eagles aren't having the season they presumed they would have. In an underwhelming campaign, the play of Carson Wentz has been heavily criticized.

In a sense, some of the criticism that Wentz has received is warranted. At the same time, there are other factors that have caused the fourth-year quarterback to regress with the Eagles.

Following the 2018 season, Philadelphia chose to hand Wentz a four-year, $128 million extension. The team also decided to allow Nick Foles to walk in free agency and commit their future to Wentz.

Due to signing a lucrative deal, Wentz's performance on the field is going to be put under a microscope. Over his first 13 starts this season, the Eagles' franchise quarterback hasn't quite lived up the price tag just yet.

With that being said, what letter grade does Wentz deserve for his first 13 starts?

Wentz's Grade through his first 13 starts: B-

Just two years ago, Wentz had himself an MVP-esque season in 2017. The North Dakota State product threw for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 13 games.

Unfortunately, a knee injury caused the talented quarterback to watch from the sideline for the rest of the 2017 season. As for this year, Wentz has only totaled 3,165 yards, 22 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

On top of those numbers, Wentz has continued to show that he has an issue securing the football. By fumbling it 11 times this year, the tough-nosed quarterback has now fumbled it 43 times in his first 53 starts.

Besides his turnovers, Wentz's accuracy has been inconsistent throughout the season. Furthermore, Wentz has three games where he has completed over 70 percent of his passing attempts.

But Philadelphia's starting quarterback also has five games where he has converted fewer than 60 percent of his passes. Aside from 2018, Wentz hasn't had a season where he has completed 63 percent or more of his attempts.

Provided that, those numbers need to be taken in context this season. Since the beginning of the season, the Eagles have been riddled with injuries on offense.

Altogether, Philadelphia has seen DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, Jordan Howard, Darren Sproles, and others miss time due to injuries. In light of that, Carson Wentz has been limited with who he's been able to throw the ball to.

Additionally, the offensive line hasn't performed as well as they have in recent year. Even with that being the case, Wentz still deserves part of the blame for why Philadelphia is in the position they are currently in.

26-year-old Carson Wentz will look to finish the season on a high note. That begins with the Eagles facing the Washington Redskins in Week 15.
