The New Orleans Saints were able to extend their winning streak to five with a win over the Chicago Bears in Week 7. Once again, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has proven his status as one of the most viable backups in the NFL.

The Saints have made quite the investment in recent years to secure Bridgewater as their backup. While he had not seen much time on the field early on, he has already managed to provide them with plenty of bang for their buck by holding down the fort in Brees' absence.

Bridgewater is now undefeated since taking over for quarterback Drew Brees in Week 2 and he has made some rather notable strides in recent weeks as an integral member of the offense. This was especially evident during their 36-25 win over against a Bears team that had an extra week to prepare with their formidable defense.

Regardless, the absence of Brees and running back Alvin Kamara had little effect on New Orleans' ability to muster up over 400 yards of total offense and 36 points. At this point, it is safe to say that it is head coach Sean Payton's scheme that has allowed players to fully utilize their skill sets given how well their replacements performed.

Bridgewater's Grade Versus Bears: B+

Bridgewater completed 23-of-38 passes for 281 yards, two touchdowns, and zero turnovers. Although the final score had indicated that it was a relatively close game, the bulk of Chicago's points came during garbage time with the Saints already well out of reach heading into the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, running back Latavius Murray dialed up 150 yards and two touchdowns on 32 touches while filling in for running back Alvin Kamara. Given Bridgewater's ability to help maintain a healthy balance on offense, he deserves plenty of credit for keeping the ball rolling on offense since Brees has been sidelined.

The 26-year-old's performance has allowed the Saints the luxury of possibly opting to take their time with the veteran's recovery. Brees is reportedly hoping to make his return in Week 8 versus the Arizona Cardinals, however, there is little reason for him to rush back with the team clicking on all cylinders behind Bridgewater.

While his time under center may be nearing its end, Bridgewater's performance in New Orleans has undoubtedly done wonders for his prospects in free agency after the 2019 NFL season. It is safe to say that there will be no shortage of interest in his services next offseason if he can continue to play at a high level.
